The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed its intention to prosecute Ejikeme Mmesoma for manipulating her score in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Telescope.ng reports that Mmesoma allegedly inflated her score from 249 to 362, falsely presenting herself as the top scorer of the 2023 UTME.

JAMB also uncovered the case of Atung Gerald from Kaduna State, who claimed to have scored 380 without actually taking the exam.

In a statement released on Sunday, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the JAMB spokesman, expressed the board’s disappointment with the situation.

He described Mmesoma’s case as particularly distressing because she deceived unsuspecting individuals, including businessman Chief Innocent Chukwuma, who offered her a N3 million scholarship.

The Anambra state government had also planned to honour her with state recognition.

According to the JAMB spokesperson, many candidates falsely claimed high scores in the 2023 UTME, with fabricated results.

He said: “Some of these candidates had obtained lower scores and used software packages to manipulate their scores in order to deceive the public.

“Mmesoma’s case was considered the most regrettable, as she fraudulently obtained a scholarship and other forms of recognition by manipulating her UTME result.

“Regarding Gerald, who claimed a score of 380, JAMB stated that his ethnic group requested special recognition for him. However, the board disappointed them by revealing that Gerald never applied for the 2023 UTME nor took the examination.”

JAMB declared its intention to prosecute Mmesoma and revoke her original result due to her disgraceful actions.

The board promised to investigate other candidates who claimed higher scores than they actually achieved, adding that if such cases are discovered, their original results will be withdrawn, and relevant security agencies will prosecute them.

According to The Punch, the Anambra state commissioner for education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, confirmed that Nmesioma’s claim was false.

In response, the state honoured Nkechinyere Umeh, who scored 360 in the examination.
