Osun 2026: Suspected Hoodlums Attack AMBO’s Wife’s Convoy in Ede, NURTW Chairman Injured

The convoy of Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), came under attack by suspected hoodlums on Sunday evening in Ede South Local Government Area.
The incident occurred as Dr. Oyebamiji concluded a voter mobilisation and sensitisation programme in Alajue Ward 2 ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
According to sources, the attack happened at about 7:00 p.m. while Dr. Oyebamiji was leaving the venue alongside Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Kayode Adereti.
NURTW Chairman Suffers Head Injuries
Eyewitnesses said approximately 15 armed hoodlums intercepted the convoy and launched the attack.
During the incident, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, reportedly sustained severe head injuries.
However, both Dr. Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti escaped the attack without injuries.
Council Chairman Condemns Attack
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ede South Local Government, Hon. Kolawole Salami, condemned the violence and urged security agencies to investigate the attack and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Salami said the attack occurred around Alajue and Sekona Garage as the APC campaign team was returning from a political engagement in the area.
He further alleged that the suspected attackers were loyalists of the Accord Party, although the allegation has not been independently verified and no official response had been issued by the party as of the time of filing this report.
Tension Rises Ahead of Osun Governorship Election
The attack comes less than two weeks before the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, raising fresh concerns about political violence and the security of candidates, campaign officials and supporters.
Political observers have repeatedly urged all parties and their supporters to conduct campaigns peacefully and allow security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the election period
