BREAKING: Tinubu promises economic growth, urges unity, patriotism in New Year message

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt New Year wishes to Nigerians, expressing optimism for 2025 as a year of promise, growth, and collective progress.
In his address on Wednesday, January 1, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges Nigerians faced in 2024, including rising costs of food and essential commodities, but highlighted several economic gains that signal brighter prospects.
“Fuel prices have gradually decreased, foreign reserves have risen, and the naira has strengthened against the dollar,” the President said. “The stock market’s record growth has generated trillions of naira in wealth, while foreign trade surpluses and investments reflect renewed confidence in our economy.”
Economic Goals for 2025
The President outlined his administration’s commitment to reducing inflation from 34.6% to 15% by intensifying efforts to boost food production and encourage local manufacturing of essential drugs. He also announced the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company, expected to begin operations by mid-2025, to expand access to credit for individuals and critical sectors.
“This initiative will drive growth, re-industrialization, and better living standards, particularly for underserved groups such as women and youth,” he said.
Tinubu reaffirmed his vision for a $1 trillion economy and urged Nigerians to stay united in pursuit of this goal, warning against divisive tendencies rooted in politics, ethnicity, or religion.
Promoting National Values and Patriotism
The President emphasized the importance of shared values and national identity in fostering unity and progress. He revealed plans to launch a National Values Charter in the first quarter of 2025, alongside a national orientation campaign to inspire patriotism and trust between citizens and the government.
“Citizens’ moral rectitude and faith in our country are fundamental to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Tinubu said.
A Youth Confab will also be convened to ensure greater inclusiveness and provide young Nigerians with a platform to contribute to nation-building.
Call for Collaboration
Tinubu called on governors and local council chairpersons to collaborate with the federal government on agricultural development, tax reforms, and energy transition initiatives. He praised states that have embraced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) public transport and electric vehicles as part of Nigeria’s energy transition strategy.
“To all citizens, your sacrifices over the past 19 months have not been in vain,” he assured. “Together, let us stay the course of nation-building and move closer to the Nigeria of our dreams.”
A Message of Hope
The President concluded with a message of hope and gratitude, urging Nigerians to continue believing in themselves and in the country’s potential.
“The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire. God bless you all, and may God bless our beloved country, Nigeria. Happy New Year!”
As 2025 begins, President Tinubu’s message underscores a renewed commitment to economic stability, national unity, and citizen engagement for a prosperous Nigeria.
