Breaking: Adeleke imposes 24hrs curfew in two LGAs
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun has enforced a 24-hour curfew on Irepodun and Orolu local government areas of the state following the violence and damage to property stemming from the communal clash between Ilobu and Ifon communities.
Telescope.ng gathered that the clash between the two communities resulted in eight fatalities and the arson of several homes. Many residents fled their homes for safety.
It was reported that the Osun State Government had convened a meeting between the leaders of the warring communities to facilitate peace talks.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner of Information and Public Engagement and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on Friday, October 6, the state government said: “Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed that a 24-hour Curfew begins in Orolu and Irepodun local governments, encompassing Ifon and Ilobu communities with immediate effect, to maintain lasting peace and order pending amicable resolution of the current issues.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke, in his executive capacity as the Chief Security Officer of the State, has ordered the immediate takeover of the disputed lands/areas by his administration.
“In line with this, the government has decreed that anyone or any group of persons found or seen engaging in any activity on the disputed lands/areas would be dealt with in accordance with the law by the Osun State government.
“Therefore, in strict adherence to the newly imposed 24-hour curfew, the Adeleke administration has also instructed the strict restriction of both human and vehicular movement in the affected areas and communities until further notice.
He stressed that the Joint Security Task Force, composed of the Nigerian Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, have been directed by Adeleke to maintain round-the-clock surveillance in the two communities to ensure sustainable peace.
He expressed condolences to the families affected by the recent crisis and affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring enduring peace and order in the two concerned local governments.
