In a groundbreaking event that celebrates Nigeria’s strides in the world of telecommunications and technology, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) proudly presents the second edition of the Nigerian Telecom Indigenous Content Expo (NTICE) 2023.

NTICE stands as a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to fostering indigenous innovation, technological autonomy, and digital empowerment.

The event, themed “Harnessing Indigenous Content for Economic Growth; Networking to Boost Investment,” kicked off with a bang, featuring the NTICE SELECT innovators’ pitching event. This carefully designed expo and gathering of industry leaders epitomizes the values of innovation, resilience, collaboration, and progress.

NTICE offers a remarkable platform to showcase Nigeria’s achievements in telecommunications, technology, and indigenous content creation and adoption. It underscores the transformative power of domestic innovation in shaping the nation’s digital future and bolstering its economy.

The Nigerian Telecoms Sector has emerged as a significant contributor to the country’s socio-economic growth. In Q4 2020, it played a pivotal role in lifting Nigeria out of recession with a 12.45% contribution to the GDP, a figure that has since grown to 14.13% as of Q1 2023. The sector also boasts two of Nigeria’s most valuable listed companies, with a combined market capitalization exceeding N10.45 trillion.

Furthermore, NCC’s forward-thinking approach, including generating revenue in excess of USD$820 million from the auction and grant of 3.5GHz Spectrum band licenses for Fifth Generation (5G) services, has placed Nigeria on the global 5G map.

While the Quality of Service and Quality of Experience in telecommunications have improved, NCC emphasizes the importance of embracing indigenous content to sustain and enhance these services without the necessity of raising telecom tariffs.

NCC’s creation of the Nigeria Office for Development of Indigenous Telecoms Sector (NODITS) has contributed significantly to promoting indigenous content, with NTICE being one of its standout achievements. The Commission has also incentivized the manufacturing of Corrugated Optical Duct (COD) to protect fiber infrastructure and has been dedicated to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and innovators.

One key policy achievement is the ban on the importation of whole-body SIM cards, which has not only eased the forex burden but also created a thriving business for local SIM card manufacturers, generating over N55 billion in revenue and numerous jobs.

NTICE 2023 is a celebration of Nigeria’s innovation, resilience, creativity, and diverse culture. It nurtures and supports young talent, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and creativity that propels Nigeria ont the global stage of technological leadership.

The event also addresses the digital divide by advocating for accessible technology, ensuring that the benefits of innovation reach every corner of Nigeria. This inclusivity drives equitable growth and empowers communities in the digital revolution.

NTICE embodies Nigeria’s commitment to technological sovereignty, asserting autonomy and self-reliance in the digital realm. It stands as a symbol of Nigeria’s collective potential, celebrating achievements and propelling the nation towards a digitally empowered future.

As Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NCC, aptly concludes, NTICE 2023 is a declaration of Nigeria’s commitment to shaping its digital destiny. It is a platform to celebrate achievements, foster innovation, and drive Nigeria towards a brighter, digitally empowered future.

NTICE 2023 is not just an event; it is a journey towards a digitally transformed Nigeria, where indigenous innovation leads the way.
