A report by Daily Trust indicates that the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah, has announced a groundbreaking initiative that makes it compulsory for every student of the institution to register a company as a pre-requisite for graduation.

Telescope.ng reports that while addressing journalists on some of his administration’s achievements in the last four years, Prof. Na’Allah emphasized the university’s commitment to transforming the educational landscape in terms of infrastructure, learning, and industry engagement.

In collaboration with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce, the university’s curriculum has been enhanced to equip students with entrepreneurial skills, encouraging them to register their own companies and become self-employed rather than solely relying on government or corporate employment.

“The industry is always on our campus to teach our students to contribute to our curriculum; they’re constantly working with us, and every time we’re always seeing something new,” Prof. Na’Allah stated.

He proudly revealed that over 1000 students have already registered their companies with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) through the university’s initiative. These students, some even in their 300 level, are given opportunities to practice their registered companies.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the institution’s commitment to nurturing a mindset of entrepreneurship among the students.

He stated: “We’re not giving you a certificate only to go and look for employment, we’re charging you to employ yourself and create wealth. Many of them have registered their companies; go to CAC and see the record.”

Prof. Na’Allah made it clear that this new initiative is now a law within the University of Abuja, asserting, “No student will graduate from the University of Abuja without having a company registered with CAC. You cannot graduate from this university if you don’t have a company that you’ve registered. You must even practice this company because you must have registered the company a year or two before you graduate.”
