Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has taken steps to investigate the issue surrounding the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result of a student from the state.

Telescope.ng reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had exposed the student from Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, Anambra State, named Ejikeme Mmesoma, who allegedly inflated her result and falsely declared herself as the top scorer for the 2023 UTME.

Mmesoma had claimed to have achieved a score of 362 in this year’s UTME, positioning herself as the best candidate in the country.

She received a N3 million scholarship from Innocent Chukwuma, the Founder of Innoson Motors, in recognition of her supposed achievement. The Anambra government had also planned to honour her for her alleged outstanding performance.

However, in a statement on Sunday, Fabian Benjamin, the JAMB spokesperson, revealed that Mmesoma actually scored 249 in the exam.

Benjamin stated that her result would be invalidated and she would face legal consequences.

Responding to the situation, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced on Monday that the state government had established a panel of inquiry to investigate the controversy.

The panel will collaborate with law enforcement agencies to examine the allegations of result falsification made against Mmesoma Ejikeme, who had been previously celebrated on social media for her purported high score.

The commissioner acknowledged the embarrassment caused by the controversy surrounding the student’s result, particularly as Governor Chukwuma Soludo is working to revitalize the education sector in Anambra State.

She also commended Nkechinyere Umeh, who was officially recognized by JAMB as the top scorer nationwide with a cumulative mark of 360 in the 2023 UTME.
