Tinubu congratulates new National Assembly leaders, calls for unity

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his delight over the election of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the President of the Senate and Tajudeen Abbas as the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 10th National Assembly.

Telescope.ng reports that the president in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, June 13, extended his heartfelt congratulations to them and also celebrated the victories of Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

Acknowledging the immense responsibility that comes with their new roles, President Tinubu urged the elected leaders to justify the confidence placed in them by their colleagues and the Nigerian people.

He also commended Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Idris Wase, and Aminu Jaji for their active participation in the leadership election and encouraged them to carry out their duties diligently for the betterment of their constituents and the country as a whole.

Addressing all members of the National Assembly, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and the need to swiftly embark on the business of governance.

He expressed his readiness to transparently collaborate with the National Assembly, highlighting the expectation of Nigerians for lawmakers to enact laws and conduct oversight functions that will enhance government performance and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

The president acknowledged that disagreements may arise during their work together, but stressed that they should not be driven by malice or ill will.

He reminded everyone of the high expectations placed on them by the Nigerian people, who long for economic prosperity, improved security, and the removal of barriers that hinder progress.

Tinubu urged unity, commitment, and dedication in order to fulfil the promises made during their campaigns and deliver progressive good governance to the nation.

Promising to remain a partner in progress for the peace, stability, and prosperity of Nigeria, President Tinubu called upon the leadership of the 10th National Assembly and all its members to join him on this governmental journey.

He added by sending his best wishes to all and emphasizing the importance of making every day of the next four years count in service to the Nigerian people.
