Democracy Day: FG declares June 12 as public holiday

The federal government has announced that Monday, June 12 will be observed as a public holiday to mark the celebration of Democracy Day in 2023.

Telescope.ng gathered that this decision was communicated through a statement released by Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In the statement, Akinlade extended congratulations to all Nigerians on this significant occasion, acknowledging that Nigeria’s democratic journey has had its fair share of challenges and successes, much like many other nations.

Despite these trials, she emphasized that the ship of State, its institutions, and above all, the Nigerian people, have remained committed to the principles of democratic governance.

She further urged Nigerians and well-wishers of the nation to reflect upon the progress achieved, celebrate the milestones reached, and foster hope for a brighter future for Nigerian democracy.

The Permanent Secretary concluded the statement by wishing all Nigerians a joyous celebration of Democracy Day.
