Oyo Police Arrest Suspect Over Defilement of 14-Year-Old Girl, Recover Stolen Firearm and Motorcycle

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a 27-year-old man, Usman Azeez, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Iseyin Local Government Area. The incident reportedly occurred while the minor went to fetch water from a nearby river.

According to the state police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, the case was reported to the Ado-Awaye Police Division on January 15, 2026. Police operatives immediately responded, ensuring the survivor received urgent medical care. Medical examinations reportedly confirmed injuries consistent with sexual assault.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Azeez allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor during the incident,” the statement read. Azeez has been taken into police custody and is said to have confessed to the offence. Investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court in line with legal procedures.

In a separate development, police operatives attached to the Ojongbodu Division, while conducting routine stop-and-search operations along the Oyo–Ibadan Expressway, intercepted an unregistered motorcycle carrying two suspected criminals. The suspects reportedly fled, abandoning the vehicle. A subsequent search led to the recovery of a locally fabricated revolver, two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an Itel mobile phone, and the stolen motorcycle. Investigations traced the motorcycle to a previous armed robbery incident, and the rightful owner has been identified.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, directed that the cases be handled with sustained intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network involved. Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest all members of the syndicate, who will face prosecution.

Meanwhile, in Atisbo Local Government Area, police reported a suspected murder at the Tede Police Division. A 20-year-old man, Abdulraheem Koni, allegedly assaulted his employer, Lateef Giwa, 35, following a misunderstanding. Giwa was taken to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Examination revealed bruises on the neck and ribs and a fractured left leg. Koni has been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for detailed investigation before prosecution.

The Oyo State Police Command continues to assure residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order, bringing perpetrators to justice, and safeguarding vulnerable members of the community.
