The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in both public and private secondary schools across Nigeria.

The directive was issued by the Federal Ministry of Education in a statement dated December 14, 2025, and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

According to the ministry, the decision follows growing concerns over the rising cases of examination malpractice, particularly the use of so-called special centres during external examinations.

The government said such practices pose a serious threat to the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s education system.

The ban, which takes effect from the 2026/2027 academic session, restricts admissions and transfers strictly to SS1 and SS2, with no exceptions allowed for SS3.

“Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstance,” the ministry stated.

Explaining the move, the ministry said it was designed to discourage last-minute transfers of students solely for examination advantages, ensure proper academic monitoring, and promote continuity in teaching and learning.

School proprietors, principals, and administrators nationwide have been directed to comply fully with the new policy, while the government warned that violations would attract appropriate sanctions in line with existing education regulations.

The Federal Government reaffirmed that the directive is part of broader efforts to restore credibility to public examinations, promote fairness, and uphold academic standards across the country.
