Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has announced that primary and secondary education in the state will be free starting from the next academic session.

Telescope.ng gathered that this decision comes as a measure to alleviate the impact of the removal of subsidy on petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit.

Governor Kefas had on Wednesday, July 5, reduced university school fees by 50% to help ease the current hardships faced by the people.

The governor made the declaration during his visit to Ebenezer Primary School in Wukari as part of his assessment tour.

He emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to bear the expenses of education and that students should not be burdened with any fees.

Governor Kefas stated that this move is not only fulfilling a campaign promise but is also necessary due to the difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

During his visit to Taraba State University in Jalingo, he also announced the removal of school fees at the university, demonstrating his commitment to prioritizing quality education.

The students at the university expressed their joy and gratitude for the reduction in fees, stating that it would greatly improve their lives.

The parents of these students, who have been struggling to pay school fees due to the subsidy removal, also expressed their relief and hope for a better future.
