APC Tells Adeleke to Stop Blaming Tinubu, Oyetola for Political Challenges
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over allegations that President Bola Tinubu and former Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola are behind his alleged political persecution ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC accused Adeleke of attempting to shift responsibility for his political challenges instead of addressing issues within his administration.
According to the party, Adeleke made the allegations during a campaign rally in Osogbo on Monday, where he reportedly claimed that despite endorsing President Tinubu as the Accord Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, he was still being subjected to political persecution. The governor also reportedly accused the Nigeria Police of compromising against his administration while maintaining that he remained the state’s Chief Security Officer.
Responding to the claims, the APC described the allegations against Tinubu and Oyetola as baseless and politically motivated. The party argued that Adeleke was laying the groundwork to justify what it predicted would be his defeat in the forthcoming governorship election.
The APC further accused the governor of fostering political violence in the state, alleging that his administration had provided refuge for wanted political thugs, rewarded them with appointments, and granted questionable amnesty to some individuals serving prison sentences.
Olabisi maintained that Adeleke had failed to provide evidence to support his claims of political persecution, adding that the governor should instead prepare for what he described as a free and fair electoral contest.
The APC also dismissed suggestions that Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election entitled him to political favours, insisting that the decision was voluntary and unrelated to the conduct of the Osun governorship poll.
The party concluded by challenging Adeleke’s record on governance and security, arguing that the August 15 election would serve as the ultimate test of the governor’s performance in office.
