Experts have praised the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development for its strategic initiatives aimed at revitalizing and purifying the mining sector to drive swift economic growth in the nation.

Telescope.ng reports that during a discussion on the Nigerian Television Authority program “Good Morning Nigeria,” panelists recommended that the Ministry should build upon and positively implement past roadmaps and policies outlined in the years 2012 and 2016 to uplift the sector.

In a statement issued by Alaba Balogun, the head of press and PR on Tuesday, October 10, Professor Charles Ofoegbu, former chairman of the National Think–Tank on Solid Minerals, acknowledged the effectiveness of the policies and programs outlined in the recent Ministry’s roadmap.

Professor Ofoegbu commended the proactive measures being taken by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Oladele Alake, to combat illegal mining activities through proposed security infrastructure.

He emphasised the importance of enhancing the Ministry’s regulatory role to purify the mining sector and recommended that it strengthen its regulations.

In his contributions, Professor Ibrahim Garba, former director-general of the mining, Cadastre Office, acknowledged the previous roadmaps from 2012 and 2016 initiated by past Ministers to reform and advance the sector.

He urged Alake to consider these earlier roadmaps for their potential benefits.

Garba suggested policy and legal initiatives address specific challenges, enhance the security of mineral rights and permits, invest in exploration for valuable information to attract investors, and replicate the successes of the Petroleum sector in the mining sector.
