President Bola Tinubu has emphasised the pivotal role of justice reform in Nigeria’s pursuit of poverty eradication and investment promotion.

Telescope.ng reports that while addressing a gathering of 16,190 lawyers at the Velodrome, Chief MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, during the Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, President Tinubu underscored the need for comprehensive reforms to chart a course for the nation’s sustainable growth.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Getting it Right: Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation-Building,” Tinubu highlighted the urgency of making hard decisions that set the country on a trajectory of prosperity.

He rejected the notion of squandering 90% of scarce revenue on servicing external debts while grappling with pressing developmental challenges.

Tinubu said: “Can we continue to service external debts with 90% of our revenue? It is a path to destruction. It is not sustainable. We must make the very difficult changes that are necessary for our country to get up from slumber and be respected among the great nations of the world.”

He further emphasized that meaningful reforms, though accompanied by initial challenges, are essential to pave the way for Nigeria’s great destiny.

President Tinubu’s commitment to comprehensive justice reform, rooted in his notable past achievements in Lagos State, was front and centre.

He acknowledged the crucial role of remuneration for judicial officers and legal practitioners in achieving true justice reform. He stressed that justice reform should commence with providing world-class salaries and benefits for legal professionals in Nigeria.

Referring to the enlightening keynote address by Tony Elumelu, chairman of UBA Plc and Heirs Holdings, President Tinubu lamented the persistence of poverty and inadequate electricity supply despite Nigeria’s abundant resources.

He pledged his administration’s commitment to revolutionizing the electricity sector to drive economic growth and development.

Tinubu stated: “Poverty is not acceptable, and we must banish it. Yes, it is a shame not to have adequate electricity for the majority of homes and industries in Nigeria. We can take many people out of poverty with uninterrupted electricity supply.”

The conference, graced by prominent dignitaries including Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and past NBA Presidents, emphasized the shared belief in President Tinubu’s ability to deliver transformative governance.

The future of Nigeria’s prosperity hinges on comprehensive justice reform, as championed by President Bola Tinubu.

His clarion call for meaningful reforms and his commitment to poverty eradication and investment promotion captured the essence of the conference, leaving attendees inspired and invigorated.
