Senate Presidency: Why governors united to support Tinubu’s choice, Makinde reveals

Governor Seyi Makinde of OyosState revealed on Monday, June 12, that several governors have made a collective decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy for the position of Senate President in the upcoming 10th National Assembly session scheduled for Tuesday.
Telescope.ng reports that while speaking at an interdenominational thanksgiving service organized in his honor by the Oyo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Governor Makinde stated that the governors, irrespective of religious affiliation, have endorsed Tinubu, who hails from the South-South region of Nigeria.
“We are not engaging in religious politics, but we stand for fairness. We stood for a Southern presidency, justice, and now we will stand for equity,” Governor Makinde asserted.
He assured the congregation that he and his fellow governors would be present at the National Assembly on Tuesday to advocate for fairness, justice, and equity in the election of the Senate President.
Governor Makinde also expressed his gratitude to the people of Oyo State for reelecting him for a second term and pledged to fulfill their trust in him. He emphasized that his administration’s focus during this term would be on consolidating the progress made in his first tenure and propelling the state towards sustainable development.
During the thanksgiving service, Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, the Chairman of CAN in Oyo State, delivered a brief sermon, encouraging the congregation to keep their focus on the sovereignty of God as the path to success. He urged civil and public servants to obey their governor in all matters and avoid superficial acts of service.
Apostle Akinyemiju also called on all Christians in the state to continue praying for the governor, that he may effectively provide good governance for the people.
The service concluded with special prayers offered for Governor Makinde, his family, the President, and the nation as a whole. Notable attendees at the event included Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal, Chief Judge Justice Iyabo Yerima, Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin, representing the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
