Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has said that he did not misappropriate public funds throughout his two terms in office.

Telescope.ng reports the governor made the statement in a live broadcast over the weekend.

El-Rufai emphasized that the only house he constructed before assuming office was intended for his retirement after his tenure ends on May 29, 2023.

In response to criticisms about his performance, he confidently asserted: “I can swear I never stole a kobo from the government coffers.”

El-Rufai dismissed the notion that he had indulged in corrupt practices, stating, “We didn’t collect this loan and run away to Dubai to buy houses or go to Jabi Road to build a mansion so that we can sleep well, that is not how we are.”

He further highlighted his modest lifestyle, mentioning that upon assuming office, he possessed only one house on Danja Road at Ungwan Sarki, and to this day, that remains his sole property.

El-Rufai declared that he neither constructed lavish mansions nor took advantage of the state’s resources for personal gain.

He went on to challenge his predecessors to take the same oath using the Qur’an, affirming that they too had not embezzled any funds meant for the people of Kaduna.
