2023: Ayu taunts Wike, says disappointment awaits those trying to cause division in PDP

The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has berated those he said have been trying to cause division in the party.
Telescope.ng reports that he said such people would be disappointed.
Rivers State Governor Nyesome Wike has been calling for the removal of the party chairman since former Vice President Atiku Abubakar got its ticket for next year’s presidential election.
The governor had reasoned that the PDP presidential candidate and the national chairman cannot come from the same region – the North.
Ayu spoke on Wednesday, September 5, in Bauchi at the North East Consultative meeting.
Those present at the meeting hosted by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed include Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Others are: Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu.
Others included one of the spokespersons of Atiku’s presidential campaign, Senator Dino Melaye; Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku; Gombe State PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Mohammed Jibrin; the party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State, Agbu Kefas; its governorship candidate in Yobe State, Shariff Abdullahi; and its governorship candidate in Borno State, Muhammad Ali Jajari, among others.
”There are enemies of the party who are determined to cause division among us by uttering all sorts of lies against us. I want to tell you that they will be disappointed because at the end of the day, members of this party will come out en masse and vote. All our National Assembly, governorship candidates will come back to the office. Having stayed out of power for eight years, the PDP will be returned to power.”
The PDP chairman had earlier received thousands of defectors at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi before the North East Consultative meeting began.
Ayu said the Northeast had not yet produced a President, adding: “But today, God has chosen Atiku Abubakar, who is a son of the Northeast, to correct all the challenges bedeviling the nation and unify it.”
He assured the defectors that they would enjoy a level-playing field within the party at all levels.
