The political landscape in Sokoto State is changing ahead of next year’s general elections. The ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is losing some of its members to the governing party at the centre, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Telescope.ng reports that the latest of such defection is that of Col. Garba Moyi (rtd), who was the Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters in Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s government.
Moyi’s defection is coming, shortly after the party received Kalanjeni and his councillors who also dumped the PDP for Senator Aliyu Wamakko-led APC in Sokoto State.
A statement by the special assistant on new media to Senator Wamakko, Bashir Abubakar, quoted Moyi as saying that he left his former party because it lacks trust, focus and good governance. Moyi said Tambuwal’s administration has derailed in its promise to the people of Sokoto State.
Moyi said: “I have noted with joy the legacies, antecedents and quality leadership of Senator Wamakko. This is what encouraged me to leave the PDP, so I can be part of his unequalled track record. It is a thing of pride to have someone like Sarkin Yamman Sokoto and should be supported by people like me to successfully undertake the affairs of Sokoto APC to victory.
“He is truly the kind of politician whose sense of fraternity, as well vision and mission remain impeccable and cannot be separated from the party’s ideology of building hope, progress and prosperity for residents of Sokoto State and the country at large.”
Senator Wamakko who received Moyi at his residence urged him, like others, to work hard for the party’s victory, particularly in Sokoto East Senatorial District and the state at large in next year’s elections.
Those present at the reception party include the Sokoto APC governorship running mate, Idris Muhammad Gobir; APC Sokoto East senatorial candidate, Ibrahim Lamido Isa; and his House of Representatives counterpart, Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga; as well as the chairman of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Alhaji Yawale Sarkin Baki.
