Sanwo-Olu hosts Super Eagles Captain Troost-Ekong, pledges support for sports development

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has received Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong on a courtesy visit, where they discussed the future of football and the transformative power of sports in youth development.
In a statement shared via his X handle, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Troost-Ekong for his leadership both on and off the field and expressed alignment with the footballer’s goals, including winning the 2025 AFCON, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, and using his platform to uplift others.
“We spoke about football, the future, and the power of sports to inspire a new generation,” Sanwo-Olu said. “He’s focused on lifting the AFCON 2025 trophy, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, and giving back to the community. On all of these, we’re on the same page.”
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports as a tool for youth empowerment, community building, and creating sustainable opportunities. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade sports infrastructure and invest in grassroots talent development.
“I commend William for leading by example. Lagos stands with you. Let’s build the future of Nigerian sports together,” Sanwo-Olu added.
