Sanwo-Olu slashes transportation fares by 50% to ease fuel subsidy impact
In a proactive move to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal, the Lagos state government has taken significant steps to ease the burden on its citizens.
Telescope.ng reports that the government has decided to slash the costs of transportation across all state-owned transport systems by an impressive 50%.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this announcement during a press briefing at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
He emphasized the state’s commitment to providing palliatives and support to the vulnerable populations affected by the subsidy removal.
The governor also shared positive news for commuters who rely on the informal transportation sector, especially the iconic yellow buses, adding that the operators have pledged to reduce their charges by 25% to further assist the public during these challenging times.
He said: “The 50% reduction in transportation costs, spearheaded by the Lagos State Government, will come into effect starting Wednesday, August 2, 2023. This measure aims to provide immediate relief and alleviate the financial strain faced by residents due to the fuel subsidy removal.”
