FG ready to provide buses, remove restrictions on students’ loans for higher education
In a bid to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on higher education students, President Bola Tinubu has taken significant steps to support their needs.
In a statement issued by Dele Alake, special adviser to the president, special duties, communications & strategy, said the president has approved the provision of buses to all universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.
Telescope.ng reports that this initiative aims to ease students’ transportation to their campuses, thereby reducing the financial burden on both students and their parents or guardians.
Alake said the president’s commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian student abandons their educational pursuits due to financial constraints is reflected in his decision to remove all restrictions on students’ loans.
Now, any student or household in need of financial assistance can access these loans without unnecessary barriers.
The president has issued a directive to all Federal Institutions of higher learning to refrain from imposing arbitrary increases in sundry fees, saying the institutions should defer any further fee hikes, ensuring that parents and students do not face additional financial strain.
According to the statement, beyond these measures, President Tinubu has shown a strong commitment to the welfare of vulnerable students.
The release of over 200,000 Metric Tonnes of grains to families in all states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, demonstrates the government’s determination to support those in need.
He said that efforts are underway to extend conditional cash transfers and food distribution to benefit vulnerable students.
The federal government commends the courage, wisdom, and partnership of Nigerian students as the country navigates through challenging times.
President Tinubu remains steadfast in prioritizing education and meeting the needs of students. His administration continues to invest in infrastructure and improve the welfare of teaching and non-academic staff to enhance the global competitiveness of our institutions of higher learning.
These actions underscore the government’s dedication to the well-being and development of the nation’s students, ensuring that education remains accessible and equitable for all.
As the nation moves forward, President Tinubu’s commitment to the educational sector remains unwavering, promoting a brighter future for Nigeria.
