Edo election: Police walk Obaseki out of INEC’s office

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki was forced out of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Benin, the main collation centre for the ongoing governorship election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Dennis Idahosa, led party members in demanding Obaseki’s removal from the premises.
Idahosa, seen protesting outside the gate around 3:30 am, questioned why the governor was present during the collation of election results.
The situation was diffused by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Frank Mba, who restored order and ensured Obaseki’s exit around 4:45 am.
APC national secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, later told journalists that the governor had no justification to be at the INEC office.
“He is not a candidate. He has no reason to be here”, Basiru emphasised, adding that the governor’s action amounted to an abuse of office.
